Hashi Ekshathe set out to support families throughout Ramadan and into Eid, combining household essentials with meals for people who had little to break their fast with.
The project
The programme was designed around two forms of support. Household food packages contained rice, lentils, cooking oil and other essentials, allowing families to prepare meals at home on their own terms. In parallel, teams prepared and served iftar for day labourers, unhoused people and families without enough food to break their fast.
The public campaign ran from the opening of Ramadan through Eid morning and set a fundraising goal of ৳150,000. The launch materials committed to regularly updated donation records so contributors could follow where their support went.
In Rangpur, the team worked with eight orphanages and madrasas and reached nearly 400 people with food and iftar. Photography was deliberately limited in parts of the programme to protect the privacy and dignity of the children and communities involved.
